 Barkett Fruit Company was founded in 1924 by Domet Barkett. In those early days, Domet, his father Myron and brother Charles would rise at 3:30 AM to be among the first buyers at the wholesale produce auction in Cleveland.. At the time, the truck was their only asset. In the late thirties and 1940’s, the business was growing, and a new warehouse had been purchased. At this time, Domet’s son Bill joined the company. Young Bill learned the business from the front of the house to the back, experiencing every job, repeating it until he mastered it. 

Bill took over the company in 1975. He and his wife Rose have five children, three sons and two daughters. While his daughter’s pursued other careers, his three sons serve key roles in the company. Tom is Vice President and is responsible for “the back of the house” overseeing produce quality as well as the family’s retail store. Ron is Secretary/Treasure, and is in charge of human resources and all accounting functions. Jim Barkett is president of the company. He oversees produce purchasing, pricing and sales.

 Barkett Fruit Company has grown into a multi-million dollar, full service operation that supplies fresh fruits and vegetables, packaged processed produce, prepared salads, eggs, and dairy products to restaurants, supermarkets and other institutions on Northeast Ohio. We deliver these products daily in late model refrigerated trucks.

 Barkett Fruit Company’s state-of-the –art warehouse in Dover is equipped with computer controlled cooling and refrigeration systems to insure optimum freshness. Special areas of the facility are set aside for tomato and banana processing, ripening, and development. While our competitors treat tomatoes as a commodity, for us they are a priority because they are our specialty.
